The Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel is embarking on a new era, with the third generation of the family business owners taking the helm of the popular four-star Killiney retreat. Managing Director, Mark Scott-Lennon and Hotel Manager Joseph Scott-Lennon will be the new co-directors of the hotel.
Leading the property into the next generation, the ambitious duo has investment plans of €10 million over the next five years, specifically in the areas of property enhancements, sustainability and expansion.
The history of this south Dublin landmark runs deep, dating back to 1740 when it was first built by Col. John Mapas. The castle exchanged hands over the next two centuries before Paddy Fitzpatrick and his wife Eithne bought the Castle Hotel in Killiney in 1971. Paddy’s daughter Eithne Fitzpatrick Scott-Lennon has been running it since 2002 and has guided the way to its continued success, whilst maintaining the original charm and Irish welcome long associated with the Castle.
Now in its 53rd year of operation under the Fitzpatrick name, the hotel has undergone significant changes and upgrades to its offerings since it first opened its doors. The hotel features 113 rooms, two bars, two restaurants, function rooms, leisure facilities including a fully equipped gym, 20-metre indoor swimming pool and Scandinavian wood sauna and steam room. Last year the hotel took steps to further enrich its leisure offerings with the introduction of brand-new padel courts to its picturesque hotel grounds.
Commenting on her retirement from Owner/CEO of the hotel, Eithne Fitzpatrick Scott-Lennon, said, “I take great pride in the enduring legacy of the Fitzpatrick family, and I am thrilled to pass the baton to my two sons, Mark and Joseph. Over the years, this hotel has been more than a business to me, it’s been a labour of love filled with countless memories. As I retire from my role as Owner/CEO, I am filled with gratitude for the journey we’ve taken together and the legacy we’ve built. I have every confidence that Mark and Joseph will continue to uphold the values of hospitality and excellence that have defined this establishment for generations to come.”
Over the last 5 years the hotel has undergone extensive investment totalling over €2 million to enhance its offerings. The hotel now boasts an outdoor Terrace Bar and Café which serves signature seasonal cocktails and wood-fired pizzas during the summer months as well as serving refreshments year round.
Speaking about their new role Mark and Joseph Scott-Lennon, said, “We are honoured to take on this new chapter in the legacy of Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. Our commitment is to build
upon the rich heritage of our family’s business while introducing fresh ideas and innovations to ensure an unforgettable experience for our guests. We are so grateful to our mother for the wonderful family working environment she has created here. Her dedication to fostering a supportive and nurturing atmosphere has been pivotal in the success of Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel. As we step into our new roles, we are committed to maintaining and enhancing this workplace culture, ensuring that our team members continue to thrive and deliver exceptional service to our guests.”
