Bricks 4 Kidz, which delivers educational play activities through LEGO® has just opened in County Donegal, teaching children aged between 3 and 16 years the principles of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM).
With a presence in 45 countries worldwide, the company’s project-based programmes use LEGO Technic® and Robotics to reinforce key concepts in the school curriculum. The specially designed project kits and theme-based models, provide the building blocks for the Bricks 4 Kidz approach to educational play.
JP McGonigle, a resident in Culdaff, recognised that this innovative concept provided the perfect opportunity to bring play-based STEM education to the children of Donegal and Bricks 4 Kidz has already proved to be an instant hit right across the County.
Since opening the business in early November, Bricks 4 Kidz has assisted over 1300 children in Donegal schools to explore scientific concepts and ideas through LEGO themed workshops. These purposefully designed and age appropriate workshops coincided with Science Week 2017 and provided children with a unique opportunity to learn about science through the medium of play.
Speaking about the business, Mr McGonigle said, “As a father of two, encouraging the next generation to engage with and embrace STEM education is extremely important and I believe that educational play is one of the most effective media, through which this can be achieved”.
“LEGO has long since developed a reputation as a leading educational tool and through its combination of curriculum-based lesson plans and fun model builds, Bricks 4 Kidz has already begun capturing the imaginations of children and parents in the County”, added Mr McGonigle.
In addition to the in-school workshops, which are adapted to suit the prevailing curriculum objectives, Bricks 4 Kidz is also delivering LEGO themed birthday parties, after-school classes and holiday camps throughout Donegal.
Karl Fitzpatrick, the Master Franchisee for Bricks 4 Kidz in Ireland, welcomed the success which the business has achieved to date, “The enduring popularity of Bricks 4 Kidz has spanned continents and I am delighted that children in Donegal are now able to enjoy the benefits of the programmes which their international counterparts have experienced for years”.
“We are delighted that JP has joined the growing network of Bricks 4 Kidz franchisees in Ireland, and with his enthusiasm and dedication for the brand, we could not have selected a better ambassador for the business in Donegal”.
Brick 4 Kidz is currently employing five people, on a part-time basis, throughout the County and the business is actively looking to recruit more tutors as it rolls out its extensive calendar of activities.
