Dublin born singer-songwriter, Mark Geary returns to Cyprus Avenue, Cork’s premier live music venue on Wednesday June 2nd.
Loyal fans will also be treated to a wonderful duet with Maria Byrne, an Irish singer-songwriter originally from Cork, but currently based in London. Maria has just released a beautiful collection of tunes, very much in the same league as Lisa Hannigan. Her uniquely phrased lyrics are based on arguments overheard on buses, intuitive slants on affairs of the heart, and she even dares to bravely spin the lyric ‘all you need is love’ in a fresh direction.
Mark Geary is really looking forward to the night and said “I’ve played in Cyprus Avenue before and it’s one of the best shows I’ve done in Cork. Everything is just amazing – the crowd, the laughter; and leaving the stage I felt complete. I’m also excited about singing with Maria in her home town as she is such a talented artist.”
Mark Geary gradually established himself as a singer-songwriter after he emigrated to New York in 1992 with a lottery-won green card. Local press christened him the next big thing in a line of honest and personal songwriters who have made a mark on the music industry, including Jeff Buckley and Elliot Smith.
Born into a large family with seven siblings, one of whom is actor Karl Geary, Mark has released a number of albums since 1999, and his music was also featured in the soundtrack of the recent movie The Breakup Artist. Mark is also currently working on composing the music for the film Sons of Perdition.
Doors open at 8.30pm and tickets are €15. Tickets available online at www.cyprusavenue.ie or by calling 021 4276165.
